  • What sites and/or applications do you visit most often? Describe the sites and applications that you identify.
Because I am in the profession of digital marketing, I use so many websites and applications daily it’s hard to list them. If I focus solely on social media type channels I would list YouTube and TikTok as the two that I use the most in both my professional and personal life daily. I also frequently use various digital news outlets and apps. Very occasionally I’ll visit Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or Linkedin.
I would describe YouTube as a video sharing service that hosts user-generated video content. I created the YouTube channel for the company I work for in order to host our product related and educational content in 2008 (Eventually, YouTube also came to be used as a video Content Management System (CMS), through YouTube’s Application Programming Interface (API), in order to show videos on our ecommerce store at the point of purchase as well). Since 2008, the channel has grown to 40.3K subscribers, includes an ever growing library of video content, and has a total of 10,860,447 video views currently.
  • Do you have positive or negative reactions when using certain types of digital media? I am not a fan of Facebook at all. The user interface and experience is terrible in my opinion. I especially don’t like all the negativity, entitled opinion offers, and the overall false sense of reality that Facebook creates.
  • Do you find that your needs are satisfied using one type of digital media over another? I use social media outlets for entertainment and learning purposes in my personal life. I much prefer YouTube and TikTok over any others.
  • Do you receive emails from companies? If so, what types of email catch your attention? What do you look for? I am responsible for creating the marketing communication emails for the company I work for. As a result, I am very critical of any emails I receive from companies in my personal life. I look for a clear message, a well-thought out design and typography, and whether or not the email is responsive across all media sizes (to name just a few). I also pay attention to what the product or offering is, why I need it, and/or what the benefit(s) would be.
  • What do you notice about the use of digital media in marketing today? Explain. Just about everything is becoming digital in marketing today. For example, the company I work for used to print a 3-volume (roughly 4,000 pages) catalog annually that we sent to existing customers and prospects for free. We no longer print the catalog and it is hosted entirely online. I also started a printed magazine with the inaugural issue published in the summer of 2004. The magazine had a print-run of roughly 100k copies up until 2018 when it became digital-only.
